Rules and Procedures
Eligibility
The Lloyd's List Italian Shipping Awards are intended to honour achievement in the Italian shipping community. For most of the Awards, “Italian” is identified as based in Italy or else of Italian ‘ethnicity’ if based outside Italy. In the case of service awards, non-Italian companies are eligible but must be demonstrably active in the Italian shipping marketplace (see award categories and the nominations link). The judges’ decision on eligibility will be final.
WHO CAN NOMINATE?
Every person involved in any role and in any sector of the Shipping Industry (Italian and International) is entitled to nominate candidates.
You may, however, ONLY nominate ONE person or company/organization FOR EACH AWARD CATEGORY. You may nominate for as many categories as you like.
Please read the criteria in each nomination link (if you are nominating online) to ensure that your nominee is indeed eligible for this category. If you are using a nomination form or just sending in a fax message, please check the award categories criteria before nominating.
Nominations
Nominations will be accepted at any time up to and including the closing date of Friday, September 23, 2011. All nominations MUST be (i) in English or Italian, (ii) clearly legible, (iii) clearly state category of award and nominated company or individual (as appropriate) in as many or as few categories as you wish, and (iv) state good reasons why your candidate would be a worthy winner of the particular award, in no more than 500 words for each nominee/category. The Lloyd's List Italian Shipping Awards are adjudicated based on the QUALITY of nominations NOT on the number of entries received for any particular candidate.
MULTIPLE NOMINATIONS WILL NOT IN ANY WAY AFFECT THE FINAL DECISION - THE JUDGES WILL CONSIDER THE REASONS AND NOT THE NUMBER OF NOMINATIONS RECEIVED FOR EACH CANDIDATE.
NOMINATE NOW by clicking on the NOMINATIONS link on the website index. You may nominate online or you may download a PDF Nomination Form. All nominations must be clearly readable and the form must be completed in full with your full contact details as well as a (minimum) one sentence reason for why your nominee merits the award. We may then contact the nominee and ask them for more detailed information to justify their nomination.
Nominations may also be accepted by a simple fax letter or email, as long as you include all necessary contact information. Clearly state the category of award and nominee, and include a (minimum) one sentence reason why your candidate would be a worthy winner. Nominations should be no more than 500 words per nomination in each category.
IMPORTANT
Whichever method you choose for sending in your nominations, the nominations MUST include: Your name, Your company, Contact address, telephone number and email. If not typed, all information must be CLEARLY PRINTED.
Lloyd's List reserves all rights to exclude any nomination that is improperly submitted or after the closing date of Friday, September 23, 2011. Thereafter, all decisions on the eligibility of candidates will be made by the panel of judges.
Criteria & Adjudication
An independent judging panel representing a broad cross-section of the Italian shipping community and impartial experts in the industry will be appointed to assess nominations and decide the recipients of awards for 2011.
Our distinguished panel will be asked to assess the candidates in each field objectively and, with the exception of the ‘Cristoforo Colombo' category, to attach most importance to meritorious activity in the past year (defined as 2010-2011, with particular emphasis on the 12-month period up to September 2011.)
Previous winners of the Lloyd's List Italian Shipping Awards may again be nominated in 2011 and are eligible to win the same award again or any other category. The only exception is the Cristoforo Colombo Award, which may not be won twice by the same individual or entity.
Specific criteria for judging the awards may differ broadly from award to award. Suggested criteria may include, but are not limited to: business success, quality, growth, exemplary initiative, financial results, share price, investment, integrity, service, safety, environmental record, commercial acumen, technical or operational performance, employment, innovation, good corporate citizenship, or any other criteria the panel individually or collectively wishes to take into consideration, depending on the award category.
The winners (with the exception of the Newsmaker of the Year) will be decided by the judging panel. Exceptionally, Lloyd’s List also has the right to directly nominate the winner of other awards only if: (i) for extraordinary reasons the judging panel has been unable to meet, or (ii) if the judging panel has declined to select a winner in one or more categories.
The judges' decisions will be made by secret ballot monitored by a Notary. These decisions will be made at their own discretion and the panel's decision is final. Members of the judging panel personally and any companies in which they participate as principals or managers are not eligible for awards in the year of their adjudication.
